Gym Wall Sculptures

My high school was having a new gym built and my graphics design 2 class was tasked with creating 5x5 foot wall sculptures as decorations on the outside walls. The general design style of the gym was a mix of neoclassical and modern/urban architecture. My class had to create the wall sculptures using Adobe Illustrator and importing it into a free 3d rendering software (Tinkercad.com).

The sculptures had to have a sport's athlete as the focus with. The athlete's contour was redrawn with the pen tool from a picture of the athlete in action. The background had to be minimal to not take away the focus and detailed enough to help viewers recognise what sport they are looking at.

White contour lines were added as detail only on the athlete in order to give the sculpture a more 3D look. The entire sculpture would be extruding out from the wall, so the 2D image was colored, with black signifying that part is extruding futher forward and the lightest gray being the least extruded.

Each part of the 2D image had to be imported seperatley into Tinkercad and reconstructed into the whole sculpture.

This is the actual image of one side the gym. The 5x5 foot wall sculptures will be placed where the five squares are located; five more squares are on the opposite side. (Note: the ten sculptures were chosen from a pool of designs from two classes.)
